RIASSUNTO In questo contributo l’autore tratta alcune tra le espressioni più problematiche del complesso fenomeno delle migrazioni contemporanee: la migrazione irregolare, la tratta e il traffico di esseri umani. L’analisi si limita ai dati e le caratteristiche della migrazione irregolare, della tratta e del traffico di esseri umani nei paesi membri della Unione Europea e in Italia tra il 2006 e il 2017. Da tale analisi risulta chiaro come i dati relativi alla migrazione irregolare sfatano ogni mito di «invasione di clandestini ». Lo studio, poi, dimostra come, nonostante i numerosi tentativi di chiarimento dei termini di riferimento e le precise delimitazioni delle categorie migratorie da parte degli esperti, la realtà europea e quella italiana ci offrono sempre più spesso scenari misti, dove risulta alquanto difficile distinguere i migranti dai profughi, i trafficati dalle vittime di tratta. The analysis is limited to the data and trends of irregular migration, human smuggling and human trafficking in the member countries of the European Union and in Italy between 2006 and 2017. From this analysis it is clear how the data related to irregular migration dispel every myth of «invasion of unauthorized migrants». The study, then, shows how, despite numerous attempts to clarify the terms of reference and the precise delimitation of migratory categories by experts, the European and Italian reality increasingly offer mixed scenarios, where it is very difficult to distinguish between migrants and refugees, smuggled migrants and victims of human trafficking.
