How can Spiritual Consolation be an Indicator of God's Will? Remarks on the Cognitive Role of Spiritual Emotions

NIEDERBACHER, BRUNO - PAG. 813-828

Abstract

In this article the author develops an epistemological framework for the second way of how to make a good and sound decision as Ignatius developed it in the Spiritual Exercises. The question that is attempted to answer is: How can spiritual emotions like consolation and desolation, or inner joy, love, peace, sadness, etc. be adequate epistemic grounds for moral beliefs, that is, for beliefs concerning what is for a person the right course of action in a given situation.

Keywords: emotions, moral beliefs, epistemology, Ignatius of Loyola
